The Five Best Spots For Trout Fishing In North America
One of the best and most rewarding parts of trout fishing is the scenery you get to explore while you're elegantly sweeping a cast in the middle of a rushing river. Fly-fishing is a sport many enjoy because of the beautiful backdrops it comes with.
We’ve searched high and wide to find the best areas across the U.S. and Canada for this sport. You’ve come to the right place to find the top areas for trout fishing in the United States.
Missoula, Montana
At first glance, you might think of Missoula as a regular, laidback town, but it is considered one of the best trout fishing destinations in the region. The famous spots include the Bitterroot or the bouldery Blackfoot, which end in Clark Fork. Montana boasts a variety of trout species that will keep you entertained in your whole fishing trip.
Au Sable River, Michigan
Did you know that Au Sable River was declared a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream by the State of Michigan? You can cast brownies, brookies, and rainbows, which are bound in the annals of American angling. Also, back in 1950, Trout Unlimited first struck along its banks.
Roscoe, New York
You know you’re in one of the top areas in the U.S. for trout fishing if it has the nickname of Trout Town USA, which Roscoe is known for. It is the launching point for the sacred rivers of the Catskill Mountains. Beginners are welcome in this area. You can expect some pretty cool catches that rival other anglers—the Beaverkill and the Willowemoc flow through town and in the angling’s history pages.
Frying Pan River, Colorado
Meandering for about 14 miles, the Frying Pan River is a tributary of the Roaring Fork. It is located in west-central Colorado and got its distinctive name from an alleged fur trapper in Frontier times. The legend goes that the trapper hung his frying pan in a nearby tree to mark the location of his injured friend while he got some help. It is a river of big trouts where a variety weighs about 15 pounds.
Calgary, Alberta
Calgary brags the biggest stream-bred rainbow trout in the world in its Bow River. Anglers can reach it from the middle of the city and primarily fish the 30 miles of blue-ribbon water from drift boats. Other great options include the Crowsnest and Livingstone, two impressive mountain streams to lure a native bull, and cutthroat trout.
